Sweaters are knitted garments which are made to cover the torso and the arms. It could be worn by anyone and is available in many styles, colors, patterns and different fabrics.

There are different fibers used to make sweaters. Knowing the difference between the fibers could help you choose the right sweater for yourself.
Animal fibers – includes alpaca, wool, and cashmere. They produce sweaters which could be long-lasting, however, some people may have allergies on with them.
Plant fibers – such as linen, hemp, and cotton. They make soft sweaters and itch and allergy free.
Synthetic fibers – such as novelty and acrylic yarns. They may be cheaper compared to other fibers, however They would tend to pill over time.

On washing sweaters
When washing your sweater, you should consider the fiber first.
Be sure to wash animal fibers by hand, in order to prevent it from becoming felt.
Plant-fiber sweaters on the other hand, could be washed in the machine with cold water and mild detergent.
For knitted sweaters, you could use cold water with a detergent that is specifically made for knits and air dry them.
Meanwhile, synthetic sweaters could be washed and dried on the machine.
In general, if you want to give a longer life to your sweaters, you could hand-wash and air-dry them instead of dry-cleaning them.
