Often times, old leather bags become stinky and musty if they are not cleaned and stored properly. We sometimes refuse to use such bags because of the smell that they have. However, before you try to throw them out, you might want to try and remove their smell.

Clean with damp cloth

In order to remove dirt from your bag, use a clean cloth or a damp cloth to wipe your bag. Let it dry for a day, however, make sure that it is not placed in direct sunlight.

Check if your bag still has that stinky smell, if so, you may do other ways below.

Make a solution which consists of equal parts of water and vinegar. Then use a cloth or a sponge, dip it into the solution and wipe your bag. Afterwards, take a damp cloth to wipe off the vinegar solution and let your bag dry.

Dip your cloth on the soapy water and wipe your bag. Be sure to focus on the areas where you think if the smelliest. Allow your bag to air dry afterwards. Set it aside for a day, if the odor still remains, repeat the process again.


Baking Soda


Simply fill a clean sock with baking soda and place it along with the leather bag in a resealable plastic bag or in an airtight container.
