How to soften stiff leather

We all probably have at least one leather item which we have on our wardrobes. However, when our leather item starts to lose its luster, we often do not know what to do.

The leather may turn stiff over time due to exposure to heat and dry air, this also causes the leather to lose its moisture and become dry. Read more details below to find out how you can bring back the luster of your favorite leather piece.

Here are some tips on how to soften stiff leather:

Leather conditioner

Leather conditioner

Use a damp cloth and wipe the leather item. In a circular motion, rub with a light coat of leather conditioner into the item. Let the leather conditioner soak in the item for at least 30 minutes. Repeat the process as needed, until the leather becomes soft.

 

Alcohol and Petroleum Jelly

Alcohol and Petroleum Jelly

Dab rubbing alcohol by using a cotton ball on the leather item. Let it soak on the item for a few minutes. Afterwards, apply petroleum jelly on the leather. This could soften the leather while the alcohol loosens the leather, making it less stiff.

 

Coconut oil

Coconut oil

Warm the leather item by setting it outside of the sun for at least 10 minutes. When the leather becomes warm, get a few drops of coconut oil and gently massage it on the leather. The leather could soften as the coconut oil soaks in it.
